If you’re planning a wedding that includes children and adults alike, you’ll want to include some kid-friendly activities to keep the little ones occupied throughout the evening. These simple yet effective ideas are low in cost, easy to DIY, and sure to keep the children entertained all evening.
1. Ceremony Activities
No one imagines their vows with a toddler running up and down the aisle! Keep the kids entertained through the ceremony with activity sheets. Individual and quiet activities like color pages or MadLibs are a great option. Or, create a word search, word jumble, or crossword puzzle with words or clues related to your wedding.
2. Event Babysitter
Consider hiring an event babysitter throughout your cocktail hour and reception. There are lots of companies around Columbus that offer these services. They’ll watch over the children so that the parents can have fun celebrating you!
3. Outdoor Area
If your venue has outdoor space, consider renting some yard games that are kid-friendly. Try out giant Jenga, corn hole, giant tic-tac-toe, ring toss, or even an inflatable! You can also set up a kids-only space outdoors with board games, a small screen for movies, and smaller activities like bubbles. And set-up is easy – just grab a few blankets and some oversized pillows to create a comfy, welcoming spot for the kiddos.

4. The Kids’ Table
Give the little ones a table of their own at your reception. Instead of a linen, use butcher paper and offer crayons and markers for the kids to color on. You can also try out toy centerpieces, such as Legos in a vase that they can use to build.
5. Food and Drink
Chat with your caterer to see if they are able to provide a menu special for the children. This could include simple staples like chicken fingers, macaroni and cheese, and a veggie. Also make sure that your bar has plenty of soda, juice, and water to offer. If you really want to go all out, offer a signature drink just for the kids like a Shirley temple.
For dessert, set up a decorate-your-own cupcake plate for each kiddo. Use paint trays to separate each topping for a budget-friendly and fun activity.
6. Arts and Crafts Stations
Gather up all sorts of arts and crafts supplies, like colorful paper, glitter glue, finger paint, and more for an activity that the kids can do all night long. You could even offer more specific crafts like friendship bracelet kits.
For an option that they’ll get to show off to the bride and groom, set up a create-your-own wedding card station. Provide paper, markers, stickers, and stamps, and you’ll get to go home with a sweet memento from the kids!

Surprise the little ones with kid-specific entertainment. Balloon artists, magicians, or caricature artists are all great options. To cut back on costs, have them just come for a portion of the evening such as during cocktail hour.
You can also invite the kids out onto the dance floor! Block out a period of time during your reception where the DJ plays kids’ favorites, and watch those little feet bust a move.
If you’re offering favors that are targeted towards adults like coffee beans or plant seeds, consider giving out alternative favors to the kids. These could be customized Play-Doh bottles, bubble bottles, candy bags, and more.
