Top Tips for Picking Your Wedding Venue

Choosing your wedding venue kicks off the planning process, and it can be a little daunting! Check out our top tips for picking your wedding venue based on your style and budget.

Before researching venues, pick out a few dates that you’re interested in and know your guest count. This will ensure you’re looking at venues that can hold all your guests comfortably. With your date and guest count in mind, also consider your priorities – are you set on a date that may not be available at your preferred venue? Or is your date flexible to fit within the schedule of your dream venue?

You’ll also want a good grasp on what your budget is. Discuss finances with whoever is contributing, and remember that your venue and catering will account for close to 50% of your budget!

Next up is style! Are you looking for a modern space? Rustic? Bohemian? Industrial? Barn? Estate? Garden? Outdoor? Indoor? A location with lots of trees? A venue with great views of the city? Whatever your preferences are, make sure you jot a few of your top priorities down so you have a strong starting point.

If you find yourself getting lost in the pages of venue listings on The Knot or Google, you may want to consider talking with a planner. Because of their extensive knowledge of local venues and their costs, they’ll be able to provide you with options that fit your vision, style, budget, and more.

When comparing venues, consider what is included in your rental fee. Some venues are all-inclusive and will provide your catering, DJ, florals, cake, and more. Other venues offer in-house catering and bar, and others only allow clients to book with certain caterers. Are tables and chairs included in your venue rental? Is there an additional fee for having your ceremony on-site? Is there parking? Are you able to get ready or get dressed on-site?

When touring your venue, try to put yourself in your guests’ shoes and see what their experience will be like. Are hotels nearby if you’re having many out-of-town guests? Will your guest count be able to fit comfortably in the space?

Lastly, ask plenty of questions! Check out this article for a great list of things you should be asking potential venues.
